Every learner is different. Effective learning can happen when we understand the individual and embrace the full potential within his or her unique interests, strengths, and needs. 


I assist learners in the following ways:


Comprehensive Educational Assessment

Comprehensive educational assessment identifies cognitive processing, academic strengths and weaknesses, and whether or not an individual may have a learning disability. This evaluation includes a comprehensive review of the individual's developmental history, academic records, a broad interview process, discerning areas of affinity or interest, and observation to gain a deeper sense of the evaluation's purpose. The assessment includes tests of reasoning and information processing, memory, visual-spatial integration, processing speed, as well as academic achievement. Results of this comprehensive evaluation provide valuable information about learning challenges and effective strategies that minimize or remove barriers. This evaluation process culminates in a report detailing the learning profile with specific recommendations helpful in supporting learning success across settings. State law and most schools mandate that a learning disability diagnosis must be documented if an individual is to qualify for accommodations or specialized services. This evaluation process is useful when there is a need to establish or update documentation for accommodations at school, when taking standardized tests (e.g., SSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT), or in the workplace. 


Customized Learning Plan

The customized learning plan can be a strategic roadmap for family, teachers, and other allied professionals in supporting shared understandings and language about the learner, learning goals, and curricular targets as self-awareness and advocacy continue to develop. This Profile constructs a complete picture of the learner's strengths and talents, weaknesses and challenges, and includes personalized strategies, supportive environmental modifications, and specific accommodations. The Learning Profile can be created from any comprehensive evaluation process that has happened in the last three-to-five-years.

 

 

Personal Coaching & Consultation

Transitions in life and school, like all changes, are a constant. Partnering together in the development and management of a learning plan can provide expertise and continuity for the learner throughout the changing landscape of education. Whether the transition is from learning-to-read to reading-to-learn or moving from high school to college, transitions demand increasing skills and abilities, which for some learners present an overwhelming challenge. My experience offers deep insight into the academic process - developmental readiness and grade level demands. I use an integrated approach, working from a comprehensive evaluation, iterating with the learner, and in collaboration with the family, teachers, and allied professionals.
